Mission: Accomplished

We did it. We made it 15 days with two babies! As of this afternoon, this one has our undivided attention:

{Garage sale find from my mom! Happiest kid you have ever seen.}

Tomorrow morning we drop Lily off with my parents and Ryan and I head to Idaho for the weekend. We are going for a sure-to-be-beautiful wedding and it is our first time away from Lily together (WHAT? I know!). I am going to miss my sweet pea, but I'm sure she will have so much fun she won't even miss us. She is going to be so pumped to stay with her Nani and Papa, I just hope she sleeps better for them than she has been for us.

Mom and Dad's big weekend out! Guess what we will be doing the whole time? If you said sleeping you get a gold star.

Wordless{ish} Wednesday: Cousins

{Cutie pie cousins.}

{Lily is just getting use to having Tessa around and now we have to say goodbye on Thursday! Any time Tessa fusses Lily will crawl over and pat her and sometimes give her a kiss, it is the sweetest thing. I love to see my girl love. We will be glad to have more sleep, but sad to say goodbye to this sweet baby girl.}

My Week in iPhone Pics: Zombies

Not a lot of sleeping = Zombie Parents

1. Rediscovering her babyhood 2. Margaritas help counteract zombification 3. Snuggling with my pretty mama 4. Tupperware: a toy for all ages 5. Be still my heart, she likes to read! 6. View in the baby mirror 7. OF COURSE she loves my man Harry 8. Sqwoosh face 9. Baby Rambo

I realize there are no pictures of me, this is due to said zombie-like appearance. Praying for more sleep this weekend.

My Magnificent Mom

In honor of her birthday (which was on Monday) I need to write a quick post about my mom. Be prepared because I might make you very jealous.

 How cute is she?

My mom is one of the most amazing people I have ever known, and I am not just saying that because I know she will read this. I also want to mention that my dad is an absolutely fantastic person/father, but this post is not about him ;)

I remember one time in high school my dad said off-hand “you know, your mom would do absolutely anything for you girls”. I had never really put that thought into actual words before, but the moment he said it I knew it to be true. One hundred percent, no question about it, absolute truth. There is a comfort that comes from knowing that someone is always there for you, always has your back, always in your corner fighting for you and only you (and your sister). My mom is that person for me. Any time I have ever felt sad, mad, confused, or for that matter happy, excited, elated, I call my mom. No matter what the situation, there has never been a time that talking to my mom didn’t make things better. I know now that not every girl has that relationship with her mom and I am so grateful to have had the luck of being born her daughter.

Growing up my mom was always involved in our lives. She was there for every dance lesson, spelling bee, play, recital (I know Dad, you were there too, this isn’t about you sheesh! You will have your own post some day!). As we have grown into young women she continues to be our mom, but has also become our friend.

Now that we have Lily I have found a whole other level of gratitude. Seeing the way my parents love my girl makes me happier than I ever expected. They watch her during the days on the 3 days a week that I work, and yet they still want to have dinner with us and spend time with us on weekends. I am so grateful that my parents are willing (not just willing, but happy!) to take care of Lily while I work. We cannot afford daycare or for me to stay home full time, so without their offer of help, Lily wouldn’t be here. I can’t even imagine!

My mom has the kindest heart. She knows how much I miss Lily during the day so she sends me pictures and videos all day long to get me through. Even just this morning, after a rough night with the two girls, my mom was worried because I am so exhausted. When I texted her “I’m ok” she responded with: “You’re not only ok, you’re a great mommy, auntie and daughter! I love you, and you won’t even remember all this later on!” It just doesn’t get more supportive than that.

As I read back over what I have written here, it just isn’t enough. I can't fully express in words how amazing, loving, beautiful, intelligent, funny, creative and all-out-fabulous my mom really is. You will just have to take my word for it.

Mom, I love you. But you already knew that.

Photo Challenge: Sweet

I am entering a photo challenge for the first time! Chelsey at The Paper Mama hosts a weekly challenge and this week the prompt is "Sweet". I don't have a fancy camera or professional editing software, but I do think my own kid is pretty cute (how unusual).

Here is my entry:

Wordless{ish} Wednesday: Temporary Mama of Two

{We are one week in as temporary parents of two! A few things have happened as a result of this experiment. 1. I am a zombie. 2. Lily is having a little trouble adjusting. There is a lot of frustration (not being able to poke the baby in the eye, not wanting Mama to feed the baby), a bit of jealousy and some anxiety thrown in. I think all of this coupled with being thisclose to walking has lead to some rough night waking (refer back to #1). 3. We have realized that whenever we are ready to have a second baby, we can handle it. It is nice to know that Lily will be older and she will hopefully be able to understand things a bit better. 4. I am completely and totally in love with both of these sweet girls (aka Little Miss and Tiny Miss) and it is going to be really hard for me to give Tessa back.}

Did you notice the blog name change is official? Thanks again for the new header Mandy!

Changing Names

The other day I was talking to a friend about my blog and they said "what will you call it when you have a second kid?" I hadn't thought of that! I can't very well keep calling it "Dear Lily" and just leave out unnamed-non-existent child number two!

I realize it is probably best to make the change now while my blog is still fairly new.  I thought for awhile about a title that would make sense for me and for this blog and I came up with... The Curly Cues!

I know curlicue/curlycue is usually one word, but this way it has a double meaning: the literal curls on Miss Lillian's head and the fact that this blog takes all of its cues from her (if you have read anything here you know who runs this show).

Nothing better than a girl with curls!

I'll need to post a new blog header and I know it will be confusing for people if the name changes on their blog lists, but better to do it now than a year or so down the road.

What do you think?
